19th Century Apprentice made Oak and Pine Miniature Chest of Drawers with Key

An appealing apprentice made 19th century miniature oak and pine, chest of drawers with three large, and two small. Original lock and escutcheon to lower drawer, with a new working key cut for it. These miniature items of furniture were customarily made by the apprentices to cabinet makers, in order to hone and exhibit their hopefully improving skills, to their employers. Some of the better made items were obviously advertising pieces made and used by the local cabinet makers themselves. This particular one was made by whatever timbers the apprentice could get his hands on.

Therefore the body and drawers of the chest were made from pine, the top is made from oak, and the plinth around the base is made from stained pine, to match the oak top. The proportions of this are good, including the size of the small dark wooden knobs used, which isn't always the case. In excellent condition and a very useful piece of furniture that has a number of practical uses, including a dressing table accessory for keeping jewellery etc. Measurements: 31.5cm wide, 19cm deep and 38cm high. C leaned and restored (where necessary) to a high presentable standard.

All you need to do is wipe over with a soft cloth from time to tim e. O ccasionally use a spray furniture polish that contains bees wax, which will maintain its satin sheen.

Please dont use a silicone spray as this could be detrimental to the wax ed surface. The item "19th Century Apprentice made Oak and Pine Miniature Chest of Drawers with Key" is in sale since Sunday, October 24, 2021.
