9 drawer table top Spice Chest or small apothecary set of drawers. Made of ash wood which is similar to oak but gets a better color over the years. Cast iron pulls of a scarce small size are impressed inside with'Pat'd Nov. Some pulls are cast more clearly than others but all have the patent date. Drawers are put together with tiny square nails and have poplar (I believe) sides.
The case has square nails at the bottom, the other nails have the usual wood filler over them so they can't be seen. The one piece pine back is held on with nails from the sides. There is a cut out for an old hanging bracket at the top of the back. 14 3/4'' x 11 1/2'' x 9'' deep. Drawers are 6 1/8'' x 3 1/4'' wide x 2 3/4'' deep (down) on the INSIDE.Lipped drawers in the early style. Lipped on all 4 sides. One drawer front has repaired bottom lip. I don't see any other repairs. Cleaned of it's finish long ago, not recently refinished and currently no finish to speak of which is allowing it to get nice and grimy again with a second patina.
Ring on top looks like a hot cooking pot mark. Darker line down side is just a drip trail as also seen on some drawer fronts. Right from a kitchen and still has scents of spice in a few drawers (and a couple of older stamps as well). 2 drawer bottoms have small dark stains, one has 2 dark green stains probably from ink. Item - not a reproduction or modern import.Coffee pot shown for scale only, not included with the drawers. We sell period items with an occasional old copy which will be stated in the descriptions.
